Rittenhouse Orrery
The Rittenhouse Orrery, built in 1770-71 by David Rittenhouse for the College of Philadelphia, and preserved by the University thereafter, is a remarkable, nearly intact, eighteenth-century mechanical device designed to demonstrate the motions of the planets and of the earth's moon. It is on display in the Kislak Center and visitors may view it there during public opening hours.
